About The Genealogy Mine

PURPOSE

The Genealogy Mine supplies web technology that helps in two arenas relevant to the modern world of genealogy research:
  • Useful data. The most useful genealogical data in the United States exists at the county level. In many cases, this data has been compiled by local historical and genealogical societies. But, in general, this compiled information has not been placed on the web -- or, when it has, it has not been placed on the web in a structured fashion. The Genealogy Mine provides technology that makes it simple for county-level societies easily to transfer their existing compilations into databases that both structure the data and make it possible to publish that data automatically on the web.

  • Source citation. With the advent of the internet and convenient PC programs, there has been an absolute explosion in genealogical activity in recent years. But most of the new activity is by newcomers who are inexperienced researchers and who do not understand the importance of discipline in accurately and methodically citing sources. The Genealogy Mine supplies a technology that integrates PC-based family history programs with appropriately structured genealogical data posted on the web, making it possible to download randomly found genealogical tidbits while carrying full source citations with those same tidbits.
